CRDA - disk datasets for interactive use CU CU Group 9 Disk 10 Days Tape CU CU (secondary media is by user request only, no automatic archiving CU is done except in the case of OFFAP noted below) CU CU Plots designated as ONFAP and OFFAP have two associated CU datasets with the same 7 digit identifying number, the CU 'D' dataset (i.e. Dxx.Dyyyyyyy) which has a 30 day retention CU and the 'F' dataset (i.e. Dxx.Fyyyyyyy) which has a 2 day CU retention. CU CU After 30 days the 'D' dataset of an OFFAP will be archived to CU tape automatically. CU CU EJECT CU At any time, the user can extend his disk datasets for an CU additional 30 days through SMS. The extension will migrate CU the dataset to cartridge tape where it will remain until it CU expires or is reused. If reused, it will be brought back to CU disk for an additional 30 days (similar to TSO migration). CU CU Through the Storage Management System, the user can also CU extend his tape datasets for 60 days from the date of extension. CU CU V. Nonlabeled tapes created from tape copy and reformat have CU a 60 day retention period. The same job name will CU prevent contention for the tape. The job name and job number CU (determined by issuing a "ST" command) of the SPARC job should be CU specified on the priority list. System restrictions prevent mixing CU disk and tape data sets; therefore, data sets specified in READ CU should be either all tapes or all disk. CU CU There are no round reel (9 track) tape drives currently attached to CU the CRAY, therefore all round reels must either be input to SPARC CU on the IBM or copied to cartridge tapes through the SEIS tape copy CU utility before being read on the CRAY. CU CUEND CU Storage Management System CU CU The Storage Management System is a data base system designed to CU allow each user to monitor and control his active datasets. It can CU be used to delete datasets, change expiration dates, store final CU datasets and archive disk datasets to tape. Datasets are CU automatically added to the SMS system almost immediately as they CU are created. CU CU To use the system, after you have logged on and have a "READY" on CU the screen, type DBS and press enter or type SEIS and select the CU DBS option from the menu provided. This will present a menu from CU which you may select different options. If an error message or no CU menu appears, contact user support in order to receive authorized CU access to the database system. CU CU To select the SMS system, type an "S" in the selection field next to CU the SMS option and press enter. This will take you into the SMS CU system. A banner panel and then a selection menu will appear. CU CU You are now in SMS. If you press enter, a list of all of your act- CU ive datasets will be returned to you, provided the list is not too CU long to display. You may enter any combination of the selection CU keys to restrict the list of datasets displayed. The SMS system CU will search the database for your records which match the keys you CU selected. CU CU The display of the list of selected datasets can be scrolled up, CU down, left, and right by using appropiate PF keys. You may view CU more detailed information about a particular dataset by typing a "V" CU next to the dataset name. You may also select action to be taken on CU your datasets - DELETE, STORE, ARCHIVE, or EXTEND. Datasets may be CU extended at most by their original retention period ( see DATASETS . CU - 1 ). CU CU ARCHIVES, STORES, and DELETES are processed daily after the normal CU day shift. This allows you to select the process options for your CU dataset list and still have time to change the options prior to the CU update run that night. CU CU When you select the STORE option for some of your datasets, a Store CU Approval Report will automatically be printed. This report must be CU approved by your supervisor before the actual storage will take CU place. CU CU NOTE: The datasets are associated to you by your TSO userid. You CU must run the jobs which create these datasets from your own CU TSO userid. CUEND CU CU Stored Datasets CU CU CU CU You may view information about your stored datasets by entering the CU SMS system and selecting your datasets which have a status code "S" CU on the primary selection menu. CU CU CU CU CU CU CHECKSMS CU CU CU CU You can find out how many of your datasets will expire each day. CU After logging on and receiving the "READY" response, type CHECKSMS. CU The data base will be searched for all of your datasets that will CU expire that day. The number will be returned to you so you can CU enter SMS and extend the expiration date if you desire.
